A SPONSORED BICYCLE RIDE BY JONATHAN CLOKE FROM JOHN O’GROATS TO LANDS END (1,035 miles) TO RAISE MONEY FOR POVERTY ALLEVIATION PROJECTS OF THE LEICESTER MASAYA LINK GROUP
Jonathan Cloke - Have Bike, Will Travel!
The Leicester Masaya Link Group (LMLG) is a non-governmental organisation managing the twinning link between Leicester and Masaya in Nicaragua; The link is now nearly 25 years old. LMLG has two main objectives:
1) To work with local partners in the Masaya Region to alleviate poverty through sustainable development;
2) To raise public awareness around global poverty issues.
We do this through a wide variety of projects - our work includes helping to set up a rotating fund for providing solar panels to rural communities without a power supply, working with community groups to provide wheelchairs and zimmer frames for elderly widows without family or support and working with local schools to help meet the educational needs of children in the region.
The LMLG facilitates practical projects that promote sustainable development on the ground in Masaya – we also help with the provision of development education in Leicester and the East Midlands, by organising exchange visits, cultural activities and projects in schools.
