Visiting Artists

Bringing ‘primitivista’ painting to Leicester During the summer of 2001, the LMLG ran an extensive programme of art residencies and development education projects to raise global awareness through cultural exchange.

Carlos Montenegro and Jairo Sandino, two well known mural painters from Masaya ran a 4 month programme of workshops with community groups and schools in Leicester and across the country, producing more than 20 large-scale works of art.

Teaching the techniques of painting in the ‘primitivista’ style, Carlos and Jairo offered first hand experience of working with artists from another culture.
